You have probably seen them around but what are 03 numbers and how much do they cost?

• Ofcom introduced UK-wide 03 numbers as an alternative to chargeable 08 numbers, such as 0870.
• These new numbers allow organisations to have a single national point of contact without consumers having to pay extra to call them.
• Calls to 03 numbers cost no more than a national rate call to a 01 or 02 number and must count towards any inclusive minutes in the same way as 01 and 02 calls.
• These rules apply to calls from any type of line including mobile, BT, other fixed line or payphone.

Non-geographic numbers (NGNs) are telephone numbers not assigned to a geographic location.

The owner may forward their NGN to any geographic, mobile, or international location.

Call costs depend on the prefix of the number called, not on the final destination.

A single number can be presented as a “Multiline” giving customers more than one line on a single number.

ISDN30 is Primary Rate ISDN with up to 30 digital channels (multiple ISDN30s can support more than 30 channels). Each channel can be used for incoming or outgoing digital-quality voice or 64kbps data. ISDN30 is delivered to customer premises over copper, fibre or sometimes microwave. In addition, there are two respected quality standards for ISDN30, DASS & ISDN30e. A minimum order of 8 x channels is required for a new ISDN30 connection. ISDN30 supports DDI Ranges and CLI (Call Line Identification)

During a BT Group Q3 2014/15 results announcement Gavin Patterson (pictured), BT Group CEO, has stated that BT intend to migrate all customers on to the IP network by the year 2025. There has been much deliberation in the industry as to when BT might switch off the PSTN and ISDN networks but there has never been a date set until now.

ISDN2 lines have two channels so you can make &/or receive up to two digital-quality calls at the same time. ISDN2 supports both voice & 64kbps data calls & is ideal as part of a data network, either as a backup for broadband or for video conferencing. Multiple ISDN2 lines can be linked together to provide line & trunk hunting. There are two main variations of ISDN2 lines: ISDN2 Standard has two RJ45 ports & can support up to eight individual devices (for ten Multiple Subscriber Numbers (MSN) on a point-to-multipoint setup. ISDN2 System is a point-to-point or point-to-multipoint solution usually connected to a compatible PBX. DDI (Direct Dialling In) is supported on ISDN2 System, so external callers can call individuals directly at their extensions
